STEP 1: Changing the DNS servers that your domain points to

If you have registered a new domain name you may skip this section. This section only pertains to customers who already have a domain name and want Layerblue Networks to host that domain.

You will need to go to your domain registrar (the place where you initially registered your domain name) Once you find your domain registration information you must login to your account and change where your domain's DNS servers point to. In order for your domain to resolve to our servers you must point your domains' DNS servers to ours. Our DNS server information is as follows:

NS1.LAYERBLUE.COM          198.87.3.230

NS2.LAYERBLUE.COM          198.87.3.231

Not all domain registrars require the IP address to be entered, but we have supplied ours just in case your registrar does require them. If you are unsure on how to change these DNS servers, we have compiled a list of step by step tutorials for a handful of domain registrars.

Please select your registrar from the following list. If your registrar is not listed and you are still having troubles, please email our support department and one of our technicians will be more than happy to assist you.

Step By Step:  Changing DNS Servers at RegisterFly (Flash Tutorial)

DNS changes can take a minimum of 24 hours up to a normal maximum of 72 hours. If after 72 hours you are not viewing your site on our servers please contact our support department.

STEP 2: Choose a Design and Upload The Content of Your New Web Site

You will need to choose a design for your new site if you haven't already. If you are looking for something professional yet simple, we offer a wide range of pre-made website templates. With prices starting at $29.95 they offer an affordable jumpstart into your new online presence.

If you already have a site and you need to upload it to our servers you can use one of 2 methods. We offer FTP access and FrontPage extensions to everyone who hosts with us. We have tutorial areas listed below for you to assist you in uploading your site to our servers.

FTP Tutorial Series for Windows 2003 Web Hosting

FrontPage Tutorial Series for Windows 2003 Web Hosting

Follow the tutorials at either of those links to help you with uploading your site. Keep in mind when you are uploading your site that your main default page to be pulled up when someone visits your site it must be named: index.htm, index.html, index.asp, index.php, etc. If you need a different page set as the default page for your site, just open a helpdesk ticket with the details and one of our technicians will be more than happy to assist.

You can make changes to your site at any time, and it is recommended to change your site content frequently for helping with search engine traffic.

*** VIEWING YOUR DOMAIN BEFORE DNS PROPAGATES ***

You can now view your domain before DNS has switched over. Login to our Windows Web Hosting control panel and click on DOMAINS -> YOUR DOMAIN -> PRE-PROPAGATION SUPPORT and click the INSTALL button. Once this has been setup, you can view your site using the URL provided on that installation screen.

You can also use that domain name to publish your site using FrontPage.

** SHOPPING CART & SHARED SSL INFORMATION **

Our servers will support nearly every shopping cart software package. We recommend osCommerce as it is free and very flexible. Our servers fully support osCommerce Shopping Cart technology. osCommerce is hands down the best, most flexible open source (free) software that exists.

If you would like you can use our shared secure domain LAYERSECURE.COM for secure processing on your site. Simply add it to your site through the control panel under the SSL icon within your domain. You can install osCommerce right into this secure area so all of your customer transactions will be SSL encrypted.

STEP 3: Create Your Email Addresses And Set Them Up On Your Local Machine (if applicable)

You now have your website uploaded, and the DNS servers pointed to ours. Now you need to setup email addresses so people can contact you. The following two tutorials will show you how to setup either a real POP3 account, or an email address that forwards to your existing email service. We recommend setting up real POP3 accounts so you know that the email is always right with your domain.

To create a new email address you must be logged into the control panel. You can access our control panel at http://control001.layerblue.com. Your account login information was sent to you when you signed up for service with Layerblue Networks. If you can't remember your login information you can have the control panel resend your login details to you by clicking this link.

Once you are successfully logged in, you can proceed with the following set of tutorials.

Step By Step:  Creating a new email account (POP3 Account) (Flash Tutorial)

Step By Step:  Creating an email forwarding account (Flash Tutorial)

This next set of tutorials will show you how to setup these email addresses in your local email client. This will allow you to download the email and keep it on your local machine.

If your client software is not listed below, please refer to your software's manual for information on setting up a standard POP3 account with your email provider.
